Originally built in 1926, the Tarpon Lodge on Pine Island retains much of its “Old Florida” charm and yet offers all the right amenities to appeal to today’s modern families. Nestled off the beaten path and right on Pine Island Sound, the waterfront views and laid back atmosphere will almost make you remember a time before cell phones and computer games.
Guests can choose from multiple accommodations, each with its own personality and perks. The Island House has 12 rooms available, six with water views and private balconies to appreciate the sights and sounds of Pine Island Sound. The historic lodge has nine warm and rustic rooms with hardwood floors and inviting décor. There are also two private retreats, each with kitchenettes and private decks overlooking the water.
The four–star restaurant onsite almost always serves fresh catch-of-the-day specials
as well as tried-and-true favorites, such as blue crab and roast corn chowder or the Pine Island clam and shrimp pasta. Many nights of the week, guests can also enjoy live music while they dine with an eclectic line-up of local “celebrity” musicians.
The serene setting may inspire some to spend their days curled up in an Adirondack chair with a good book or swinging lazily in one of the hammocks. However, there are plenty of alternate options to keep other family members busy from the active to the artsy. Boating of all types is available, from kayaking the Great Calusa Blueway to day-trip fishing or cruises to Tarpon’s sister resort Cabbage Key. In addition, both Pine Island and the nearby Matlacha are home to many resident artists with galleries that are open to the public.
